B-day 10 years!

Next month on May 16th we’re be celebrating 10 years of GRIP! To mark this special milestone, we’ve put together an exciting programme filled with workshops, challenges, and fun activities.

GRIP Workshops

  • Route Setting: Your chance to set your very own boulder! The workshop takes place in the Arena with our setters there to guide you. To join, you must be 18+ and climb at least 6a. Spots are limited and participants will be randomly selected from all sign-ups.
  • Climb Fearless: Learn how to move more confidently on the wall. Our coaches will help you overcome fear through drills and challenges at Atlantis.
  • Climb Dynamic: Want to improve your dynamic climbing? We’ll help you become more explosive and show you how to set up for dynamic moves. As part of the workshop there’ll be a dyno challenge at the Black Board.

Guest Workshops

  • Fontainebleau: Curious about outdoor bouldering? Bart van Raaij, author of several Fontainebleau guidebooks, shares his experience and tips for climbing in Fontainebleau.
  • Crack Climbing: Mountain guide Jacob Schmitz teaches the fundamentals of crack climbing. There’ll be crack climbs for the workshop at the Black Board.
  • GRIP Warrior: We’re building an epic obstacle course at the Wave. Start the timer and race through the course! The top qualifiers during the day will advance to the GRIP Warrior Final.

Quiz: We’ll finish the day with a GRIP quiz, followed by the announcement of the winner of our route setting workshop.

Bring a friend for free: To make the celebration even greater, everyone with a membership or 10-entry card can bring one friend for free!

Note: We have special opening hours from 11:00–21:00. You can still climb as usual, so bring a friend and try our boulders and all the fun activities!

Spread the word and come celebrate with friends and family. We can’t wait to celebrate 10 years of GRIP together!

GRIP OPEN Kids

We’re excited to announce the second edition of GRIP OPEN Kids! After last year’s success, we’re keeping the formula the same: a fun, open competition for climbers up to 12 years old.

GRIP OPEN Kids is the perfect first step into competitions. The boulders are specifically set with shorter reaches in mind, and there’ll be a fun side activity where kids can decorate their own GRIP brush. It’s all about fun for everyone involved, while still offering plenty of challenges for more experienced young climbers. We will finish the day with a finals round to crown the GRIP OPEN Kids champion.

Competition details

  • Qualification (10:00–13:00): 25 boulders.
  • Finals (13:30–15:00): Top 12 advance to the finals.
  • Food: We’ll have a special menu on the day so everyone can get their food quickly.

Registration is just €15, including entry, a limited-edition GRIP OPEN Kids T-shirt, and a customizable brush. You can sign up via the link below.

Athletes 2026

We’re excited to announce the GRIP Athlete Team for 2026!

These eight athletes will represent GRIP at competitions and push their limits on hard projects both indoors and outdoors. Follow along as they take on new challenges and share their journey throughout the year on social media.

Alien Head 7/2

It’s time for another Alien Head competition. Get ready for a day full of fun boulders with the community. Anyone can join — no pre-registration needed and no extra fee beyond the regular entry.

You can look forward to 25 competition boulders, starting from grade 4a, so even beginners can join in. Of course, there will also be plenty of challenging boulders for intermediate and advanced climbers.

After the competition, there is time to hang out, enjoy some food and drinks, and relax together.

Spread the word and bring your family and friends!

Pro Climbing League

A few weeks ago, GRIP hosted a test event for the Pro Climbing League (PCL) — a brand-new competition format where professional climbers go head-to-head on identical boulders. The first athlete to reach the top wins; if no one tops, the win goes to the athlete who reaches the highest hold first.

GRIP was chosen as a test venue due to our setting team and unique facilities. As the only gym in Europe with two adjustable Lemur x Kilter Slab walls, we were able to create mirrored boulders for the athletes to compete on side by side!

Preparation and testing

The test event ran for five days: four days of preparation and filming, followed by one day of competition simulation.

During preparation, the GRIP setting team worked closely with Kilter setters to create and refine mirrored boulders. This setting process differed significantly from regular setting, using tools such as rulers, templates, and markers to ensure the boulders were completely identical. Once the boulders were ready, the team focused on efficient resets. This was a crucial element of the competition format, since boulders had to be removed and replaced with new, identical problems between rounds.

The preparation phase also brought several high-level athletes into the gym. Shauna Coxsey, multiple World Cup winner and Olympian, and Erin McNeice, one of the UK’s rising competition climbers. They helped testing the boulders and creating footage for the event. Much of the week was captured by a Red Bull media crew, so there was a lot going on with all the cameras and athletes.

Competition simulation

The competition simulation took place on December 18, with both a men’s and women’s category. The knockout format included qualification rounds, semi-finals, a third-place match, and a final. Athletes had up to four minutes per boulder, unless the boulder was topped earlier or their opponent finished first. Because competitors climbed simultaneously, the format introduced a clear strategic element. Athletes had to balance speed with efficiency, deciding when to push, when to rest, and how to respond to their opponent’s progress on the wall. This head-to-head structure created a different dynamic from traditional competition formats — both for athletes and spectators.
